Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Framed and Frameless enclosures?
Framed showers are typically constructed of thinner and weaker 1/8″ to 3/16″ glass. They rely on metal to strengthen the enclosure.
A frameless shower enclosure is made up of 3/8″ to 1/2″ tempered and polished safety glass. This glass has greater strength and does not require heavy metal framing around it. Frameless shower doors also eliminate the wobble seen in cheaper store-bought doors when opening or closing.
Are Frameless showers expensive?
The prices offered by JP Glass are very competitive! In-fact, we constantly price match other big box stores to make sure we stay ahead of the curve! The fact is, you can certainly find cheaper units for sale, but you won’t find a better value than JP Glass. Our frameless enclosures are all custom ordered to fit your exact specifications and are made with the finest quality products. The actual price depends on your configuration and choices in glass and hardware. The more custom the unit, the higher the price.
Do you do complete bathroom remodeling?
We do not, however, we work with some of the best contractors in Jacksonville and would be happy to direct you to some of our partners who specialize in your type of project.
Are Frameless enclosures safe?
Our frameless enclosures are as safe as any other door under normal operating conditions. It does bear mentioning that under no circumstance should a towel bar be used as a grab bar, nor should you ever hang from the glass.
Can I replace a framed door with a frameless door without changing all my tile?
Yes. There will be holes left in your tile that will need to be filled. The hardware on the new enclosure may or may not cover the holes, but we do our best to hide them. Also, depending on how old the tile is, you should be prepared for the possibility that a few tiles may need to be replaced as they may crack when the old unit is removed.
Can you remove my old shower enclosure?
Yes. Absolutely! And we price this into all our estimates.
Do you use safety glass in your enclosures?
Absolutely! All shower glass must be tempered. In the event that the glass breaks, it will do so in many small fragments rather than sharp shards, to prevent major injuries.
Can I purchase the enclosure and install it myself?
It is not recommended that a home do-it-yourselfer attempt to install a frameless shower door if you do not have prior experience. Frameless glass shower installation is a fine art with extremely small tolerances being critical to obtaining a leak proof glass shower enclosure without gummy caulks or ugly gaskets. To get it perfect, installation needs to be exact. Also the slightest chip in the safety glass can cause it to shatter leaving you with a very expensive mess to clean up. Our installers pride themselves on being the best in the business.
I don't want clear glass; won't it get dirty faster?
Clear glass does not get dirty any faster than obscure glass. A quick wipe with a rubber squeegee after each use will keep your shower glass looking like new for years to come. With just a minimal amount of cleaning, our enclosures will stay beautiful for years to come.
How soon can you install my door?
Stock doors can be installed as quickly as 1 week from receiving an order, while custom enclosures generally take 3-5 weeks. In some cases, lead times can be increased due to custom finishes or the complexity of the enclosure.
